What is Occupational Therapy?

Holistic Approach

OTs take a holistic approach by considering the physical, emotional, social, and environmental factors that impact a participant’s life, ensuring all aspects of their well-being are addressed in their NDIS plan.

Capacity Building

OTs focus on building participants’ skills, confidence, and independence, empowering them to manage daily tasks, engage in their communities, and achieve their personal goals.

Advocacy

OTs act as strong advocates for participants, ensuring their needs and rights are understood and met within the NDIS and other systems, while helping them access the right supports and services.

About

The Role of Occupational Therapists in the NDIS

Occupational Therapists (OTs) help people with disabilities engage in meaningful activities and build independence in their daily lives. Within the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), OTs assess functional capacity, provide therapy interventions, and recommend assistive technology to support participants in achieving their goals. Their focus is on improving a person’s ability to perform daily tasks at home, in the community, and at work or school.
